Ridged Furrows Dishcloth

Pattern from: Nifty Knit Dishcloths

Yarn: Peaches and Cream Ecru

Knitted Hat

Yarn: Lion Brand Lion Wool in Color 609 Winter White

Size 8 Circular and Double-Points

Pattern from: SouleMama

Completed: March 5, 2006

Note: Yes, this is the third hat I have made using this pattern. This one was meant to be a gift for a chemotherapy patient, but I fear the wool is a little too itchy, so I am going to gift her the pink version which is much softer. The hat is a bit smaller with the smaller needles and it is very fitted. I love the fit.

Knitted Hat

Yarn: Some sort of acryllic
Size 7 Circular and Double-Points

Pattern from: SouleMama

Completed: March 15, 2006
Note: I gifted the pink version of this to a chemotherapy patient and it was a perfect fit, so she asked me to make her a few more. She provided the yarn for this navy one and I wrapped it up last night so that she could wear it to an even this weekend.

Yarn: Some sort of acryllic

Size 7 Circular and Double-Points
Pattern from: SouleMama
Completed: March 16, 2006

Note: I gifted the pink version of this to a chemotherapy patient and it was a perfect fit, so she asked me to make her a few more. This is the third in that series, something to match her Easter attire. I have to admit, I am getting bored making the same hat over and over again, but it suits her. One more to go. I hated this yarn by the way.

Kitty Bed (Felted)
Pattern from: Wendyknits w/ minor adjustments

Yarn: Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride in Oatmeal, Tiger Lilly, Oregano and Roasted Coffee

Size 10 Circular Needles

Completed: April 1, 2006

Note: Yes, it should be bigger. Yes, I should have double-stranded or used Lamb’s Pride Bulky, but it came out kinda cool and it’s a great cat toy holder, even if it can’t hold the cat that plays with the toys. Live and learn.

Magic Loop Ribbed Sock

Yarn: Opal Sock Yarn in 40

Size 2 Circular Needles (47 inch)

First sock completed: April 23, 2006

Second sock completed: May 8, 2006

Note: My very first socks. Thanks to my knitting guru, Needlefingers, I survived this first pair. I am thrilled with the outcome and only hope my stitches get tighter and I grit my teeth less when I do the short row shaping and Kitchner.

Yoga Mat Bag
Yarn: Sugar & Cream Cotton in Playtime

Pattern from Stitch N Bitch Nation

Size 8 & 9 Circular Needles
Completed: May 6, 2006

Note: A Mother’s Day gift for my mom, her yoga mat is orange, so it will match perfectly. I was unhappy with how I connected the strap to the bag, and would probably pick up stitches next time and go from there. I also didn’t use a purchased tie was the pattern suggested. Instead I created my own I-cord tie. I felt it would match better than anything I could purchase.

Felted Bowls

Pattern from: One Skein: 30 Quick Projects to Knit & Crochet

Lopi in Colors 0104 (Tomato/Coral Color) and 0315 (Brown)

Lambs Pride Bulky in Raspberry (Red)

Lopi 0104 Size 15 (16-inch circular & double point) needles; Lopi 0315 bowl in Size 13 (16-inch circular) & Size 15 (double point); Raspberry bowl in Size 15 (16-inch circular & double point)

Completed: May 30 & May 31, 2006 (Lopi Bowls) June 7, 2006 (Lambs Pride Bowl)

Notes: I had to felt the Lopi bowls three times and I am still not happy with them. I felted the Lambs Pride twice, but it was very creased and unevenly felted. I am blaming the washer and size of the item. Overall, these were disappointing. Blame it on the knitter.

My first wearable object. I modified it slightly at the neckband as the directions left me with two back-to-back purls in the ribbing. I also made the bottom slightly longer than called for just to give me a little more coverage.

World War II Red Cross Socks

Pattern: Red Cross with my own adjustments

Yarn: Wool blend from yarn kit purchased from Red Cross; less than one skein

Needes: Size 2 Circular Needles
First Sock Completed: December 16, 2006

Second Sock Completed: December 18, 2006

I made these socks for my dad for Christmas. He’s a history buff and teacher, concentrating on World War II, so this seemed appropriate. Kits like the one I ordered were given to women wishing to knit socks for soldiers at war. The Red Cross reissued the kits this year. The tin included the yarn, instructions, plastic knittng needles and a darning needle. I followed the pattern somewhat, but did venture out on my own following a standard sock pattern I learned in making my first pair. I also used the Magic Loop Method and used size 2 needles instead of the size 3 double pointed ones provided in the kit.

Raindrop Lace Socks

aka Chocolate Covered Cherry Socks

Pattern: Fiber Trends Raindrop Lace Socks (An adaptation of Swiss Fan Stitch from Barbara Walker’s Second Treasury.)

Yarn: Fly Super Sport 3-ply Hand-dyed Merino Wool (Ruby Redmond, which I renamed Chocolate Covered Cherries) One Skein
Needles: Size 2 Circular Needles (Magic Loop Method)

First Sock Completed: December 28, 2006

Second Sock Completed: New Year’s Eve 2006

Notes: I chose to use a smaller needle as I chose a yarn which was a little more bulky than the Lorna’s Laces shown in the pattern. I also chose to reduce the number of heel rows to better fit my foot. Love, love, love this yarn. It was so very soft and the colors so very deep.
