Calling

I stopped by the funeral home today to bid farewell to two very unique people. The first is a 37-year-old former colleague and theater friend. Shocking loss. Unable to wrap my mind around it. So young. . . so many young faces there to say goodbye.

The second was my high school Spanish teacher and perhaps one of the most influential people in my life. The 87-year-old had taught countless students, turning her true calling into a life’s legacy. I spoke briefly to her sister, who explained that in the second grade she knew Gladys had found her calling, influenced by a teacher of her own. How wonderful to always know who you should be. Gentle, fun. She will be missed.
