We didn’t decide until Thursday that we were really going to go. We had been monitoring the weather and decided to risk it. It was a good decision, a very good decision. It meant a flurry of activity late Thursday night, but we pulled it together. We packed up the two of us, our gear and set out Friday for Mammoth Cave National Park.
It’s funny, the way once we reach our site we go about making our temporary home. A flurry of putting up the tent, pulling out our chairs, digging out our provisions, making our bed. I love the idea of making our home where-ever we might be. Dinner consisted of chili dogs with our own homemade chili and lots of snacking ensued. A warm camp fire. A very cozy night thanks to cool temperatures. Quiet, such a wonderful quiet.
